Landline vs mobile number for your business

Why customers still trust a landline number, and how to have one without a landline.

Customers read a landline number as a sign a business is established and reachable: it suggests premises, a team, a company that will still be there next year. A mobile number reads as one person, possibly working from the van, possibly not answering. That's unfair to a lot of excellent one-person businesses, but it's how first-time customers behave when they're choosing who to call for a quote.

The practical answer is to have both: a New Zealand landline number for the website, the van and the Google Business Profile, ringing the mobile you already carry. Callers see a landline; you get the call wherever you are; and your personal number stays private.

Working hours matter too. A landline number with working hours routing lets business calls stop at six o'clock without you having to switch anything off, which a personal mobile number can never do.
